In January 2010 some of our group donated 12 quilts to Project Linus.
Project Linus is a charity which gives quilts to children of all ages , the aim is to provide a sense of comfort to those who are sick or have been traumatised. It also allows needlewomen a chance to contribute to their communities.
Some of our members donated the material and made the quilits over a couple of days. Several of the women were experienced patchwork quilters but some had never done this kind of sewing before.
In March 2010 nine of us visited Combermere Barracks in Windsor, home of the Household Cavalry, to deliver a range of items such as instant hot drinks ,sweets, shortbread, socks, boxer shorts, playing cards and lads mags to name a few. These had all been donated by our members, to be sent in shoeboxes to the troops in Afghanistan. We were privileged to meet a soldier, who had been injured in Dec 2009, and hear first hand what it is like there, and how much the items we were sending are appreciated. We were shown around the museum and also saw the magnificent horses in the stables.
